Bon Temps et Bon Appetit

I'm fond of telling people that when I decided to move back South from San Francisco, I thought long and hard about where I could live where I wouldn't starve to death.

New Orleans won by a landslide. I love my adopted city and I encourage everyone to make a trip here. We're rebuilding and we're cooking. Just one taste and you'll know what it means to miss New Orleans.

My personal style of cooking is a fusion of the places I've been and the food I've eaten there. As an Army brat and as an adult, I've traveled widely through Europe, Australia and the United States and, for nearly a decade, I lived in one of the most diverse cities on the planet in terms of population and restaurants. That is one of the reasons that I've found a home here. The melange of cultures and cuisines of New Orleans makes me and my taste buds one happy camper.

The picture I'm using on this page is Rosie the Riveter enjoying a lunch break. The picture was a cover of the Saturday Evening Post drawn by Norman Rockwell. Remember, besides food, there are art galleries in abundance and the D Day Museum to see in The Crescent City. Check out New Orleans Online for maps and upcoming events.

Additions

It is cold and flu season somewhere. I had a bear of a cold and cough this year, so I had lots of incentive to work on perfecting chicken soup. I'm a southerner, so I added the initial roast chicken and also dumplings to my grand study. Follow this link: Chicken Roast to Soup

As the weather chills, it is time for a meal that will warm you inside and out. Long slow cooking for the dinner and a quick flame on for the dessert. Follow this link: Pork Debris.

We head into summer and thoughts turn to the great outdoors. That in turn leads to dreams of setting fire to some carbonized wood to cook your choice of meats or vegatables. I'm putting on a couple of recipes for rubs and marinades for you to use when you're firing up the grill. Follow this link: The Rub's the Thing.

As we enter the new year and the cold of January, my thoughts turn toward soup. Too many people believe that a soup is a difficult thing to make. Not true! I'm including three soup reciepes that might not help you slim your waistline but they will certainly help warm you from head to toe. Follow this link: Soup's On!

I got into a conversation with a friend who was approaching a major anniversary. She wanted to have some suggestions for a romantic meal. I'm flattered that when someone wanted to seduce with food, they thought of me. Toward that end, I gave her a menu. Follow this link: Romancing the Stomach.
